Xorg not starting

Hi,

I've installed arch on an old Sony Vaio laptop (VGN-TX3XP) though for some reason X doesn't start.
To test the setup I'm using "exec twm" within ".xinitrc" as the simplest settup possible.

However I just get a mouse pointer with command prompt is still visible below with no desktop.
I've provided output from "lsmod", "lspci -v", and the Xorg log below.

Thanks for any tips!
Tom

Re: Xorg not starting

I would try to install a basic DE like LXDE or LXQt and a DM.

Re: Xorg not starting

I did - I tried "twm" which is the most basic DE/WM you can get and it doesn't startup.
I also tried LXQT and LXDE and neither work...

Re: Xorg not starting

I see that the 'i915' module loaded, X also has an Intel video driver.
The only error I see is:

[   223.074] (EE) open /dev/fb0: Permission denied

I remember some issues around /dev/fb0, see:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=185292

Can you start X as root?
