[SOLVED] Kernel panic on Mac mini 1.66 Core Duo using rEFInd

The system errors with this error message:

Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)

I use Mac mini Late 2006 1.66 Core Duo (with 2 GB upgrade), 4 GB USB flash drive as my installation media and rEFInd as my bootloader.

EDIT 1: The machine perfectly runs Linux in BIOS mode (although no keyboard support in GRUB)

EDIT 2: This issue was solved by making an editable flash drive and installing a 32-bit EFI version of GRUB on flashdrive.
