Hi, since yesterday evning when I performed
pacman -Syu
, I start getting the warning
2018-07-31 20:14:18,782 fail2ban.ipdns [327]: WARNING Retrieving own hostnames failed: unknown encoding: idna
2018-07-31 20:14:18,803 fail2ban.ipdns [327]: WARNING Unable to find a corresponding IP address for XXX: unknown
encoding: idna
2018-07-31 20:14:18,803 fail2ban.ipdns [327]: WARNING Unable to find a corresponding IP address for localhost: un
known encoding: idna
in my fail2ban log (I replaced the hostname with XXX in the above).
My questions are :
Is this serious?
Which package I upgraded yesterday is causing this? I upgraded about 100 packages yesterday between 20:11 and 20:15.
How do I get rid of these warnings/their possible consequences?
For information, I only have ssh jail running at the moment (but I have intention of adding more jails as I am running other servers), and
I don't ssh from this machine to itself...

I think I figured out the answer to this one, in view of the dependencies of fail2ban, it must be python.
[2018-07-31 20:14] [ALPM] upgraded python (3.6.5-3.0 -> 3.6.6-1.0)
. But this still doesn't solve the issue.

Somehow this problem disappeared. I don't know why.
