GUI Installer

Hello! Is there a graphical installer for Arch Linux 32?

Re: GUI Installer

We use the same means of installing as Arch Linux - which does not come with a graphical installer as far as I know.

Re: GUI Installer

There is an arch fork which is (or was, I've not checked) based on the Arch repos but at least add a graphical installer.  It might have been Manjiro, or I'm probably misremembering and mixing up my names of distros.  And whether they still support i686 when Arch themselves have dropped it seems unlikely.

The arch installation instruction of the wiki are rather good.  There's no hurry; the first time I did it I did it over the course of one evening and one morning, as I remember.

Re: GUI Installer

That's it!  They don't use arch32 repos vanilla, it seems; they at least resign the binary packages, but apparently you can add the arch32 repos fairly easily, and it should work, at least when you're not affected by glibc issues that is.

I should point out that the reason it took me two days to do the install the first time around is that you learn a hell of a lot about how a modern systemd-using linux works during that process, which has proved itself invaluable knowledge when keeping the systems I use happy.  That install process was one of the best things about using any Arch-based distro I found.

Re: GUI Installer

I can't find any linuxes on there that actually claim to support i686 once you click through to their websites, and if they don't mention what they support, have only published x64 updates recently.  Even manjiro which we know has a arch32 version, I can't find a link to through their website.

Re: GUI Installer

You need to dig deeper, visit their homepages, forums etc.

Re: GUI Installer

I did visit the homepages of manjaro, antergos and a couple of others.  I didn't go digging in their forums though.

Damn, I keep typing manjiro when I should be typing manjaro.

Edit: That said, using the advanced search, I have found Parabola linux, and I found ArchStrike apparnently resumed i868 support in March thanks to help from tyzoid.  On topic, ArchStrike seems to provide a desktop installer although Parabola's installation instructions seem to be based on arch's more manual installation.  ArchStrike seems to be targetting security professionals (penetration testers and the likes) but it offers a basic openbox installation, so it should be generally usable, especially if you're comfortable in the shell.

Re: GUI Installer

I also wanted to bring up some links here (maybe we should make a more prominent section somewhere on the web page for this).

Tested and working installation:

Manjaro32

https://manjaro32.org/ (Project Page)
https://osdn.net/projects/manjaro32/ (ISOS)
Graphical installation: yes

Archbang

9 month old ISO at http://archlinux32.andreasbaumann.cc/di … a-2311.iso
(then simply update)
Graphical installation: yes (actually, graphical live CD with a terminal install program - TUI)
Some caveats: first update must update archlinux-keyring, archlinux32-keyring, then the rest.

Tested and don't work (at least for me):

Parabola

https://www.parabola.nu/ (Project Page)
https://wiki.parabola.nu/Get_Parabola (ISOS)
Graphical installation: yes (live CD and GUI installer)
Bugs: at least the LXDE i686 image is unable to find packages during installation (404 errors)

ArchStrike

https://archstrike.org/ (Project Page)
https://archstrike.org/downloads (ISOS)
Graphical installation: yes (TUI from graphical live CD)
Bugs: 404 errors during installation
