Scanner issue (Brother DCP-J315W)

I'm trying to install the Brother DCP-J315W printer/scanner.
I got the printing side working through this AUR package (driver): https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/brother-dcpj315w/
But I cannot use the scanner.

I've installed Sane/Skanlite and this AUR package (driver): https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/brscan3/
The scanner is somehow recognized as scanimage -L lists it correctly, but Skanlite refuses to start.
If I run a basic scan through scanimage, I end up with a "error during device I/O" message that I cannot fix.

Any tips on how to get it working?
