[Solved] kernel panic due to libcrypt.so.2

Hallo,
some weeks (or maybe months) ago i've updated the system and shut the system down. Now, when i boot it up i get a kernel panic saying ash cannot find libcrypt.so.2. I've tried to inject the most recent libxcrypt versions from Arch32 archive but it ends in the same kernel panic with error 75 (instead of not found).
I've injected the tar archives with Alpine Linux as the Arch32 ISO doesn't boot up either (kernel panic). The laptop still runs Win7 successfully.

Any idea how to fix this?

Booting ISO (archlinux32-2021.04.06-i686.iso) from USB:

So the ISO fails with a similar kernel crash?  That's unexpected.  I'd have thought this CPU dating from '04 should run i686 just fine.

Re: [Solved] kernel panic due to libcrypt.so.2

Yes, the system is running 'Pentium4' sets since the beginning without problems.
Is the ISO maybe trying to pull data from the HDD? Other than that, the entry point is always INT80 (whatever this is). Maybe systemd has problems with that device (now). I'm out of ideas at the moment what to do to fix this. Its not all to urgent though but i would like to get Arch32 back on the long run. I guess i will wait some time for now.

Edit: Could this be related to this?

Re: [Solved] kernel panic due to libcrypt.so.2

If you've installed libxcrypt it shouldn't be that issue.  My libcrypt.so.2 comes from that package too, and I seemed to float through that issue without problems, despite using quite a lot of cryptography.

The ISO shouldn't touch anything on the HDD until you mount it manually, assuming you selected boot from disc in the bootloader.

Re: [Solved] kernel panic due to libcrypt.so.2

The problem with 'libcrypt.so' is that there are several candidates (here). I'm not sure how old the last update is. I think i've tested all but 'libxcrypt-4.4.18-1.0-pentium4.pkg.tar.zst'. Will test that as well later. Maybe i can try to chroot from Alpine (that uses openrc btw) and do a proper system upgrade and libxcrypt re-install.

Re: [Solved] kernel panic due to libcrypt.so.2

In case it's of any use to you, you can normally discover when you last updated the packages by doing a 'ls -lrtc /var/cache/pacman/pkg'.  The date of the last files is generally when you last did an update.  That should give you an indication of the version of libxcrypt that's likely to be the most compatible.

Re: [Solved] kernel panic due to libcrypt.so.2

Last update was 08.Feb.2021. I've updated the system via chroot in Alpine and now its working again (yippieh!). Don't know what it was.

Thank you!
