libffi.so.7 troubles

Hi guys!

Since a couple of days I can't rebuild xmonad due to missing libffi.so.7 complaints.

And I even can't start X anymore, so I'm running sway. – Then starting e.g. thunderbird from an xterminal it also states:

XPCOMGlueLoad error for file /usr/lib/thunderbird/libxul.so:
libffi.so.7: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Couldn't load XPCOM.

This is probably related to a recent system update, according to the hits in this forum.

Re: libffi.so.7 troubles

Might be a result of the fix of this

Re: libffi.so.7 troubles

Well, maybe.
But what is one supposed to do then?

yes, thunderbird doesn't rebuild anyway due to rust issues.

and xmonad I triggered.

I think, I'll publish the libffi33 package in community (currently only in build-support). This at least keeps software running which
currently cannot be rebuilt.

FWIW the post was already made at half past 6 yesterday evening.

Re: libffi.so.7 troubles

I installed libffi33, it wasn't even on my system.

That helped a bit – in a way. Xmonad can be recompiled, and X gets started. However, I cannot do anything in it, and it crashes when e.g. attempting opening a terminal. That's what the log complaints:

In sway, I am able to open a terminal or a couple of apps such as xed. – Yet both thunderbird and firefox get started but crash after a few seconds, or when trying to make something with them.

Re: libffi.so.7 troubles

I don't think that stacktrace shows who issued kill signal 6 (which is SIGABRT so it seems reasonable for X to abort in response), but that would be worth knowing I think.
