ArchBang 32bit

I have recently been working on a i686 version of ArchBang (currently beta). It is based on archlinux32 though we do not have uefi at the moment.

If anyone is interested you can find iso on source forge.

https://sourceforge.net/projects/archba … ang-32bit/

Any feedback, comments welcome either here or on ArchBang forums

tyzoid: is the current ISO for 686 EFI-capable at all?

Re: ArchBang 32bit

No, neither can the -dual iso be booted on an i686 EFI machine. IIRC EFI on i686 was 'experimental' at best, even when i686 was arch-supported.

Re: ArchBang 32bit

Am testing an windows tablet base on a 32bit cpu, have found I can get an android iso to boot on it (at least to grub menu).

Have posted elsewhere on forums regarding uefi, am kinda sticking my neck out in saying that most archlinux32 users will be running on older hardware. Some kind of uefi support might be required by some.

Re: ArchBang 32bit

While I'd love to have EFI working, I personally don't have the time or know-how to fix it. While I can't say the same for deep42thought or andreas, we're always happy to have other devs join in to help. Our focus thus-far has been on older hardware, so if there are users with use cases for new i686 hardware, please let us know.

Re: ArchBang 32bit

For the time being I would remove support for uefi from your iso, this will reduce build time and number package shipped. Cannot really see the point of someone who is running a 64bit machine with uefi using archlinux32.

Can certainly look at other distros for clues wink

Re: ArchBang 32bit

I wouldn't strip it out just yet (from the -dual at least), assuming you support the -dual iso, since it can EFI boot on x64 systems.

Re: ArchBang 32bit

We have never supported dual iso. I have no real hardware to test uefi so only know if it works under Virtualbox.

Re: ArchBang 32bit

I was under the impression that archiso used systemd-boot.

Re: ArchBang 32bit

I am trying to find out if systemd-boot is 64bit, know that archiso comes with uefi support only (releng) is testing for a 64bit system. Made the mistake of asking over on Archlinux forums and my post got binned!

If I do get it working (possibly from an install) then I will of course share what I did.

Re: ArchBang 32bit

Great thread!
I'm hitting my head against a wall trying to migrate my old-but-great archbang to archlinux32 without any success.
The 32bit iso in the original post is no longer available for download.
If anybody can point me to a working link, i'm offering myself to test it, but no UEFI on this machine (EEEPC).

Re: ArchBang 32bit

We have old isos on https://archive.archlinux32.org/isos/
If you let me know which release broke the boot for you, I can try to have a deeper look at that and revert breaking changes.

cheers,

Re: ArchBang 32bit

I think he's looking for archbang isos, not archlinux ones.  From the little research I've just done, it sounds like archbang is arch plus openbox, which sounds rather similar to my archlinux setup, but I had to do a little work to get that.

FWIW, the transition instructions I used to move from archlinux's official old 32-bit build to the sparkly new archlinux32 build should still work as far as I can see, which it just to write a new /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist and do an update.  It's probably enough to pick one good source for your mirror for the first update, although if you're on an especially flakey connection, you could just sync pacman-mirrorlist to get the full list, then pick a few good ones from there.

Architecture: pentium4, Testing repos: Yes, Hardware: EeePC 901+2GB RAM+OS half on the SD card.

Re: ArchBang 32bit

Thanks both for your answers.
I was talking about the link provided in the original post  (https://sourceforge.net/projects/archba … ang-32bit/) wich is no longer valid and redirects to 64bit versions of archbang.
I might not explained myself accordingly, sorry about that.
In my opinion archbang (wich is basically arch+openbox as levi noted) is probably one of the very best OS for limited resources computers.
When i first saw archlinux32 project (wich is GREAT by the way!!) for the first time i've already formatted my Asus eeepc 901 to another OS, so now i've installed archbang again from an old ISO, and i'm trying to migrate it to archlinux32 repos & keyring, but it's giving me some serious headaches.
If there isn't any newer link i think i'll probably try to install from scratch with an archlinux32 ISO one of these days...

Again thank you!
